PLEASE HELP STOP THE NEW LEGISLATION.
While we all hate the idea of puppy farmers and puppies born in terrible conditions. The governments new bill will stop everybody including responsible ethical breeders like us. Dogs will be for the very rich with prices expected to exceed $10,000+ (unless your buying a greyhound as the racing industry is exempt) Puppy farmers will also find a way to go under ground/ black market, so all this new bill is doing is making pedigree breeders the enemy, this will also encroach on all aspects of the pet industry causing many job loses and increased prices to keep your beloved dog.

Update re "Stop Puppy Farming" Bill
Today the State Government has reintroduced the Dog Amendment (Stop Puppy Farming) Bill 2020 to parliament.
Disappointingly, amendments to exempt Dogs West Members from the Bill have not been incorporated by the Government, despite strong representations by Dogs West, including to the Minister, Premier and local members of parliament.
At every step during the process leading to this Bill’s reintroduction, Dogs West has been apolitical, respectful, collegiate and professional in its dealings with government as we act in the best interests of our members and our dogs.
Given the government’s significant majority in both Houses of Parliament, It is now almost certain this Bill will be passed as is and unamended.
We have written to the Minister to request Dogs West be included on any group or committee which it sets up to develop and guide the implementation of the Bill. We will keep you informed as to the response.
Dogs West understands that an amendment to exempt its Members was very likely to be passed on the numbers of the Opposition and cross-bench members prior to the last election. Dogs West worked hard in a non-partisan and apolitical manner to inform Members of Parliament from all parties to achieve that result.
However, Government did not progress the Bill to a vote and, as such, the Bill lapsed when parliament was prorogued before the March election.
Now, with Government numbers so dominant, any amendment would fall upon the Government to make. Unfortunately, we have seen no appetite to exempt Dogs West from any of the State Government MPs we have been writing to and meeting with.
We encourage you to write to your local MP expressing your concern and disappointment over Dogs West not being exempt from the Bill based on our already high standards (as explicitly recognised by the government) and requesting Members to introduce amendments to do so.
We will keep you informed on our next steps and progress of the Bill.
